Greenwich Nursery School currently offers four different programs to meet the needs of our community and students. These programs are:
2.5+ Program
3 Year-Old Program
4 Year-Old M-W-F Program
4+ M-F Program
The 2.5+ Program
This class is designed primarily as a structured playgroup for the children. Daily activities include art, story, circle time, songs/finger plays and free play. The class provides an opportunity for socialization with other children and a short separation from Mom and/or Dad.The 2+ Program is for 2 1/2 to 3 year-olds and meets two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Children must be 2 1/2 years old by October 1 and potty trained or almost potty trained. NOTE: Starting in 2023, we started a Spring class on Mondays/Wednesdays. We hope to do this again in 2024!
*The 2+ program begins the first week of October, and is limited to 15 students.
The 3 Year-Old Program
These classes serve as the young child's first real school experience. The program focuses on adjustment, establishing routine, and setting limitations. Socialization, language development, and readiness experiences are included. We strive to foster growth through varied activities in both group and individual experiences. The 3 Year Old program is for 3 - 4 year olds and meets two days a week on Tuesdays/Thursdays or Mondays/Wednesdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Children must be 3 years old by October 1.
The class begins in September.
As of 2024, we also are offering Extended Learning Fridays from 9am-12pm for 3 year olds. The theme of this class is 'Traveling Around the World'.
The 4 Year-Old M-W-F Program
Our three-session-per-week classes offer children a more structured individualized program. We present readiness activities in preparation for Kindergarten, along with artwork, free plays, stories, finger play and handwriting. Learning experiences include active participation in both group and independent studies. The 4 Year Old Program is for 4 - 5 year olds and meets three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Children must be 4 years old by October 1. The class begins in September.
The 4 Year-Old M-F Program
This program has been designed specifically for children who have "just missed" the cut off for Kindergarten. It also provides an alternative for younger students, although technically old enough, who often are not ready to be in a Kindergarten classroom. It is commonly called "the gift of a year" or "Transitional Kindergarten".
The curriculum in this classroom and the project themes are the same as those in the MWF class, but will go in more depth on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our goal is to take these students a "step further". The objective is to move them beyond standard Kindergarten Readiness preparation and help them advance their fine motor, social, and academic skills.
Numerous studies have found that younger students are at a disadvantage to their older peers, in the same room. In some cases, the students struggle academically and socially. This class addresses this need and provides students who would have otherwise been the youngest in their classrooms an alternative. The greatest advantage children acquire through the program is Self Confidence.
This program meets five days a week on Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
